Doctor Scrubs — Your Questions Answered

Can't find your answer? Our UK-based team is available Monday–Friday 9am–5:30pm.

What type of scrubs do doctors wear in the UK?
In the UK, doctors most commonly wear V-neck scrub tops paired with straight-leg scrub trousers. The most popular colours are steel blue, navy blue, hospital blue and surgical green. Junior doctors often follow departmental colour coding, while consultants may have more flexibility. Our doctor scrubs range includes all standard NHS and private hospital colourways.
Are your doctor scrubs suitable for theatre and surgical use?
Yes. Our scrub tops and trousers are suitable for theatre, surgical and clinical ward use. Our poly-cotton (195 GSM) range provides the structured professional appearance required in clinical settings, while our mechanical stretch and four-way stretch ranges offer additional freedom of movement. All fabrics can be washed at 60°C for infection control compliance.
What is the best scrub colour for doctors?
The most widely used scrub colours for doctors in the UK are hospital blue, steel blue, navy blue and surgical green. Many NHS trusts follow a colour-coding system for different roles and departments. Our range includes hospital blue, navy blue, royal blue, ciel blue, steel blue, surgical green, black and more — covering all standard NHS and private healthcare colour requirements.
Can I get my hospital trust name embroidered on doctor scrubs?
Yes. We offer professional in-house embroidery on all our doctor scrubs. Add your NHS trust name, hospital logo, department name, grade or individual name. Placement options include left chest, right chest and sleeve. One-off setup fee is £3.45 per design — never charged again on repeat orders. Minimum order is just one garment.
What fabric are your doctor scrubs made from?
Our doctor scrubs are available in three fabric constructions: Poly Cotton (195 GSM) — durable and breathable for everyday clinical use. Four-Way Stretch (Polyester 71% / Rayon 22% / Spandex 7%, 195 GSM) — premium stretch for unrestricted movement during long shifts. Mechanical Stretch (100% Polyester, 145–150 GSM) — our lightest option, moisture-wicking and quick-drying. Full details on each product page.
Do you offer bulk scrub orders for NHS trusts and hospital departments?
Yes. We supply over 100 NHS trusts and hospital departments across the UK. Volume discounts start from 10 garments, increasing at 25, 50, 100 and 250+ units. For large trust-wide orders or ongoing supply contracts, contact us at sales@smartwearoutfits.com or call +44 (0) 1438 41 91 77 for bespoke corporate pricing.
How do I choose the right size for doctor scrubs?
Our doctor scrubs are available from XS to 5XL in both unisex and gender-specific cuts. The unisex straight cut provides a relaxed professional fit suitable for all body types. Check the size guide on each product page as sizing varies slightly between fabric ranges. If between sizes, we recommend sizing up for comfort during long clinical shifts.
How quickly are doctor scrubs delivered across the UK?
Plain stock doctor scrubs are dispatched within 1–3 working days from our Stevenage warehouse. Custom embroidered orders dispatched within 5–7 working days from artwork approval. We deliver to all UK addresses including England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Free UK delivery on qualifying orders over £150.
