Care Home Uniforms — Your Questions Answered

Can't find your answer? Our UK-based team is available Monday–Friday 9am–5:30pm.

What uniforms do care home staff wear in the UK?
Care home staff in the UK typically wear tunics or scrub tops with matching trousers. The most common colours are navy blue, burgundy, royal blue, teal and black — often with white contrast trim. Many residential care homes, nursing homes and domiciliary care providers specify a uniform colour for all staff to build trust with residents and their families. Our range covers all standard care sector colourways.
What is the difference between a care home tunic and a scrub top?
A care home tunic is a structured, longer-length top — finishing at hip to mid-thigh — with a professional collar, concealed fastening and often contrast trim. It is the traditional choice for care assistants in residential and nursing home settings. A care home scrub top is a shorter, more relaxed V-neck style offering greater freedom of movement, increasingly popular in busy care environments.
Are your care home uniforms CQC compliant?
Yes. Our care home uniforms meet the practical hygiene and professional presentation requirements of CQC-regulated care settings. All fabrics can be washed at 60°C for infection control compliance, maintaining colour and professional appearance through repeated high-temperature washing. Our poly-cotton tunics and scrubs are widely used by CQC-registered residential care homes and nursing homes throughout the UK.
Can I add my care home or company logo to uniforms?
Yes. We offer professional in-house embroidery on all care home uniforms. Add your care home name, company logo, staff names or job titles. Placement options include left chest, right chest and sleeve. One-off setup fee is £3.45 per design — never charged again on repeat orders. Minimum order is just one garment.
What fabric are your care home uniforms made from?
Our care home uniforms are available in three fabric constructions: Poly Cotton (195 GSM) — structured and durable for patient-facing care assistants. Four-Way Stretch (Polyester 71% / Rayon 22% / Spandex 7%, 195 GSM) — premium stretch for active care roles. Mechanical Stretch (100% Polyester, 145–150 GSM) — lightest option, moisture-wicking and quick-drying. All washable at 40–60°C. Full details on each product page.
What colours are most popular for care home uniforms?
The most popular care home uniform colours in the UK are navy blue with white trim, burgundy with white trim, royal blue, teal and black with white trim. Many providers use different colours to distinguish staff roles — for example navy for senior carers and lighter blue for care assistants. We can supply multiple colours within the same order for different grades.
Do you supply bulk orders for care groups and providers?
Yes. We supply independent care homes, nursing homes, domiciliary care companies and large national care groups across the UK. Volume discounts from 10 garments, increasing at 25, 50, 100 and 250+ units. Contact us at sales@smartwearoutfits.com or call +44 (0) 1438 41 91 77 for bespoke pricing.
